Sodium cocoyl isethionate is a mild surfactant derived from coconut fatty acids. It is a white, odorless powder, environmentally friendly and biodegradable. It produces rich, creamy foam even in hard water and is gentle on the skin.
In cosmetics, sodium cocoyl isethionate provides mild cleansing and preserves the skin barrier. It is used in solid shampoos, syndet bars, soaps, shower gels and shaving creams. Concentrated products with this ingredient are convenient for travel as they take little space and do not spill.
As a primary surfactant, sodium cocoyl isethionate creates creamy foam and gives the skin a silky feel. As an additional ingredient it enhances mildness and helps disperse lime soap. Unlike many other foaming agents it does not dry or irritate the skin, making it highly valued in natural formulations.
