Potassium hydroxide is an inorganic base widely used for making soft and liquid soaps and for pH adjustment in water-based cosmetics. It is a fine, white, odorless powder that dissolves very well in water with heat release.
Although potassium hydroxide dissolves very rapidly in water, it is chemically active, and pH stability depends on product thickness and thorough mixing. The more homogeneous and viscous the system, the more even and stable the pH; in very fluid products, the ingredient should be introduced gradually as a diluted solution to avoid local alkalinity fluctuations.
Thanks to its strong basicity and saponification properties, potassium hydroxide efficiently converts vegetable oils into soft and liquid soaps, providing good foam and easy rinsing. It is also added to gels, shampoos and lotions to set pH precisely and achieve a uniform, visually appealing texture without lumps. Its predictable performance and high quality make it suitable for soap and water-based cosmetic production.
